Calle Abajo Presents 2027 Carnival Queen

On Friday evening, the Calle Abajo tuna from Las Tablas presented its future queen for the Carnival 2027. They also honored the memory of their great-uncle Edgardo 'Chiche' de León Madariaga for his contributions to national folklore.

"Today (yesterday) their tuna and their neighborhood present to the country a sovereign of bearing, lineage, and carnival spirit," states the Calle Abajo 2027 presentation.

María Paula Acedo Pérez, 23, is the sixty-sixth monarch of the Las Tablas tuna. She is a graduate in Nutrition and Dietetics and is currently continuing her professional training by specializing in High Management.

It is reported that María Paula has participated in the courts of Calle Abajo, serving as a lady-in-waiting in 2020, 2023, and 2024.

The sovereign comes from a distinguished carnival dynasty where names such as SRM Norma Testa Hegenbarth (1978), SRM Lilibeth Batista Vásquez (1985), and SRM Maricela Barrios Almanza (1992) shine, as well as her mother, Mitzi Pérez Madariaga, National Queen of the Pollera in 1991.

"Her tuna describes her as a woman 'beautiful, prepared, and of natural elegance.'"
